Methodology
The anatomy of Asia Base market research
Desk research The foundation of the Asia Base pyramid
is desk research. This is a collection of raw data extracted from industry
publications, internet websites, company brochures, government statistics,
exhibition directories, and various other secondary sources. This is the stage
at which gross lists of OEMs, suppliers, distributors and other entities are
compiled. The outputs are simple databases that are further reduced to
“net-lists?through telephone inquiries according to the client's particular
needs. Net-lists may be submitted to clients and are also used as an in-house
resource upon which to build further research.
Primary research The next step up the Asia Base
pyramid is primary research. This comprises in-depth, face-to-face and telephone
interviews with end-users, OEMs, system-integrators, manufacturers,
distributors, research and design institutes, industry experts and other primary
sources of information. The outputs at this stage are detailed interview
reports. Interview reports follow a standard format that is customized according
to the nature of each project. These reports are a key deliverable, and
constitute the backbone of Asia Base Research's product line.
Competitive analysis An analysis of the competitive
environment is the next layer of the pyramid. Using both primary and secondary
information, detailed case studies are made regarding competitors in a given
industry.
Summary reports and presentations The final
components and peak of the Asia Base pyramid are the summary reports and
presentations. All the accumulated data is compiled, analyzed and presented in a
comprehensive report.
